Y2Y senior advisor Karsten Heuer has spoken out about plans to narrow the wildlife corridor near Dead Man’s Flats, a small community along the Trans-Canada Highway just east of Alberta’s Banff National Park.

Heuer and many other concerned individuals and groups, including the Town of Canmore, Bow Valley Naturalists and Three Sisters Mountain Village, say the proposed plans would negatively affect wildlife.

“If we are going to be serious about co-existing with wildlife we need to make long-term commitments towards that and not back out of those when the economics of taxation aren’t working out for a few years.

We need to think bigger,” said Heuer, who worked on the original draft of the wildlife corridor in 1999 as a wildlife biologist.
