Join Wildlife Research Scientist Tony Clevenger, Ph.D. at WildSmart's next Speaker Series event Wildlife passages in Banff and beyond: Home-grown solutions for a global problem.

Synopsis: For over 30 years, large mammals have safely crossed a major 4-lane highway bisecting Banff National Park nearly 200,000 times. By ensuring that key ecological processes are connected, highway mitigation is arguably one of Canada’s greatest conservation success stories. From 1996 to 2014, long-term research quantified the effect of the crossings on predator-prey interactions, gene flow, diel activity patterns, behavioural responses to crossing designs, and the role of humans in shaping where and when wildlife cross the highway. The Banff mitigation has become recognized as a global model for transportation planning. They are a model of what can be done and what works, and therefore continue to motivate and inspire other highway projects throughout the world.

This is a free event, however donations towards the WildSmart program are very much appreciated.

We hope to see you there!
