The BC Protected Areas Research Forum (BCPARF) is a bi/tri-annual gathering of British Columbia (and neighbours) parks and protected areas managers and researchers from government, First Nations, academia (faculty and students), industry, non-governmental organizations and private sectors involved and interested in the ecological and social dimensions of protected areas planning and management.

Call for presentations, research and management snappers, posters, workshops, and special sessions and side-meetings is now open (http://www.unbc.ca/bc-protected-area-research-forum/conference-submissions) with an online submission form. Submission deadline is September 30, 2018.

The conference program will start with our opening keynote on the evening of December 3 and end by approximately noon on December 5. Special workshops and other activities may be scheduled before or after the conference core – please stay tuned for details.

Registration will open late summer.

This year the conference will return north to the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George.

Dr Tara Martin is a Professor of Conservation Decision Science in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia. Prior to this, she was a Principal Research Scientist with Australia’s National Science Agency, CSIRO where she founded and led the Conservation Decisions Team. Tara is a pioneer in the field of conservation decision making - combining ecological data with decision science to bridge the gap between research and on-ground conservation action and policy. Her current research interests include prioritizing threat management for biodiversity conservation; climate adaptation and mitigation under global change; understanding shifting baselines and informing eco-cultural restoration; and decision-making under uncertainty. Tara was recently awarded The Nature Conservancy Professor in Practice Award, Thomson Reuters Citation & Innovation Award for her work in Climate change decision making and a Wilburforce Conservation Fellowship. She co-leads the Climate Adaptation theme within the IUCN Climate Change Specialist Group.
