Rachel Weston, Island Park Safe Wildlife Passage Initiative Graduate Intern

Rachel Weston is Y2Y's Island Park Safe Wildlife Passage Initiative graduate intern.

Rachel WestonRachel Weston is the Island Park Safe Wildlife Passage Initiative graduate intern. She’ll raise public awareness of wildlife crossing options as the Idaho Transportation Department plans to expand Targhee Pass and U.S. 20 in the Island Park area.

Additionally, she will assist Y2Y with comments to the Idaho Transportation Department’s Idaho Transportation Improvement Plan, and will work with partners to promote local and state wildlife crossings.

Rachel just finished her first of two years as a graduate student at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. At Yale, she is focusing her studies on large-scale land conservation, land management, and forestry. She is especially interested in public lands management and stewardship.

After growing up in Vermont, Rachel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French Studies from Smith College in 2010. After college, she moved to Washington, D.C. and spent five years working as an environmental consultant to the federal government (in particular, the Department of Energy and EPA), state agencies, and private energy companies.

In her free time, Rachel loves skiing, hiking and reading. She is very excited to spend the summer in Teton Valley, and is looking forward to learning as much as she can about this part of the country.
