Help Influence the Final Decision on the Site C Dam - May 23, 2014

One Step Closer, But We Are Not Done Yet!

Graham Osborn - Site C

On May 8, the Joint Review Panel, the body that examined the environmental impacts of the Site C dam, concluded that Site C would have “significant adverse effects” and that BC Hydro has not fully demonstrated the need for Site C at this time. (Click for details)

The Fate of Site C Is Not Decided Yet

Although the report brings us one step closer to a final decision, it does not decide the fate of Site C.

That decision is up to the federal and B.C. governments. It is expected they will make a decision before mid September.

We need you to take action now more than ever to have your say on the final decision on Site C.

What You Can Do

Please write to the federal and B.C. governments before July 1, 2014 and ask them to say no to Site C. (Space provided below)

It is IMPORTANT YOU compose a PERSONAL letter. Form letters carry significantly less weight than a personal letter.

To help you with the content, we have provided talking points below.

Points to mention:

  • The dam would flood more than 60 miles (100 kilometers) of valley bottoms, destroy valuable agricultural land, and force families from their homes.
  • It also threatens to fracture wildlife populations that are otherwise continuous along the Rocky Mountains.
  • The Peace region is already undergoing enormous stress and Site C would have profound environmental consequences.
  • Site C would result in significant cumulative effects on fish, wildlife, land use and resources for traditional purposes and heritage.
  • BC Hydro has not demonstrated the need for Site C at this time.
  • The exact cost of the project is unknown.
  • BC Hydro has not explored other alternative renewable resources.
  • The Peace River twice topped the list of B.C.’s most endangered river by the Outdoor Recreation Council (click to read story)
